Introducing Rachel

I met Rachel a couple of years ago through the Whitewed.Directory community. She instantly gave me that feeling that she knows her stuff, well read, interesting and is head over heals in love with makeup and beauty therapy.

Rachel is the ultimate professional and well known in the wedding industry. I’ve worked with her a few times now and find her to just get it;, gets stuck in and produces beautiful styling. All my boudoir clients have loved working with Rachel and always love their hair and makeup results.

If you are looking at making a booking with her, make sure you enquire early as she gets booked up very quickly.

Why do you need hair & makeup in your life?

Every bride should feel pampered and special on her wedding day. Booking a hair and makeup artist for your big day is pretty important I’d say. I believe your photographer would agree too. It’s a huge day in your life, feeling good and looking fabulous is very important. Feeling the very best version of you is another way of putting it!

A few weeks ago, I interviewed Rachel who is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Rachel was over the moon to be able to share her experience and personality of her business with me to give you an insight into her busy world of makeup and hair. Even though I’ve worked with Rachel many times, this interview let me know a little more about this talented lady.

As we chatted, I asked Rachel a number of questions which I will share with you now.

What started your love for hair & makeup?

Rachel tells me how she used to be a Beauty Therapist for 10 years. She knew she loved makeup and working with ladies making them feel the best version of themselves but also needed that work life balance! So she took a bold step and closed her business and in 2015 and retrained to include bridal hair styling. In her own words:

This has been the best thing I have ever done.

Like many of us, we find new beginnings in the most unusual places and so did Rachel. She has made it her business to learn more and more about makeup and how to help others apply it. One of her experiences was helping a friend talk to teenagers as part of the Chippenham Pregnancy Crisis Centre Team. She would see so many young ladies with over applied makeup. She tells me:

I looked around the classroom, I realised that so many were hiding behind a mask, a mask of makeup consisting of very orange foundation and very black heavy eyeliner..

Feeding the passion!

Rachel obviously knew the basics of makeup but needed to know more. With a friend’s encouragement she decided to attend college working it around her baby daughters at the time. She loved it so much she extended to do another beauty therapy course. It was at college where she met her friend Caroline who now works alongside Rachel on occasion when a bridal party needs extra hands.

Her main passion was for makeup but wanted the makeup to enhance natural beauty not cover it up. Rachels new formed business in bridal makeup and beauty therapy was to use good quality products and brands whose emphasis was on nature and nurturing natural growth.

Onwards and upwards, a few years later, she has run many a workshop boosting self-esteem at schools.

I have had the privilege of showing teenagers and more mature ladies that they can make subtle changes to their makeup which makes so much difference to their look and how they feel about themselves. Not only do I run my business but I am a wife and a mum to two beautiful teenage daughters who have kept me on my toes!.

Keep learning and up to date

Wind forward a few years and she has not only attained her Professional NVQ Level 2 in Cosmetic & Corrective Makeup but she now specialises in wedding hair and makeup and has worked with more brides over the years than I’ve applied lipstick!!

Keeping up to date is important to Rachel. She reads blogs, watches uTube videos and follows a couple of her make up idols like Lisa Elridge ( and Charlotte Tilbury (

There are never enough hours in a day, there is always something to learn.

Very impressive, she also finds the time to run her successful business and keep up to date with the ever changing trends in hair and makeup which I can only imagine is a huge time sync!

A flawless service

We chatted on about the type of service Rachel gives to her clients. From the outside looking in, I see that Rachel really cares about her clients. She likes to get a solid understanding of what they are looking for so there are no nasty surprises on a wedding day in particular.

A pre wedding day trial session is always booked, testing colours, looking at hair styles, skin type and all sorts of other things that she has researched and learnt over the years. So many years of experience really comes into its own here.

Depending on the size of a bridal party Rachel might bring in her friend Caroline to help. Caroline, just like Rachel is experienced and knows her stuff. Rachel will figure out the timing of the day and make sure that everyone is styled to perfection in plenty of time for the wedding. She’ll never make you late or panic on timing. Don’t worry, she has it all under control she is a safe pair of hands.

Rachel’s strapline for her business is ‘A flawless finish but not over defined’. She hates the over applied look but loves to create a soft natural feel for her clients. Carefully listening to all requests, Rachel makes sure she creates a perfect finish and is always her worst critique, if it’s not perfect she starts again!

Beautifully light and flawless

So Rachel, what is your favourite hair style, the dreamiest that you love doing where your creative flair can go into overdrive?

it has to be a mermaid plait, intwined with flowers or pretty hair accessories, it's so pretty and elegant.

Whilst Rachel is based in Chippenham she will travel within an hour of her home to meet wedding clients, having said that she also books clients in her own beauty salon. She has a lovely dedicated feminine room where she invites clients to have their nails polished, pedicures, makeup sessions, makeup trials. Like I keep saying, Rachel is in LOVE with all things beauty and makes it her business to make every woman feel their beautiful best.

Rachel has worked at several wedding venues over the years, like Grittleton House, Stanton Manor, Widbrook Grange and a favourite of hers is The Lost Orangery near Colerne, to name but a few.
